The Medtner Code

The Medtner Code – Sergey Neller’s Complete Medtner Project

A global recording project led by conductor and pianist Sergey Neller, aiming to unveil the complete musical legacy of Nikolai Medtner by his 150th anniversary in 2030. Over 60 opus numbers will be recorded and released in high-quality audio and video formats, opening Medtner’s music to listeners everywhere.

Unveiling a Hidden Genius

Nikolai Medtner (1880–1951) was one of the last great romantics — a composer whose music possesses profound beauty, spiritual depth, and dazzling craftsmanship. Yet today, his works remain one of classical music’s best-kept secrets.

Founded and led by German conductor and pianist Sergey Neller, the project brings together outstanding musicians from around the world, united by their passion to reveal Medtner’s genius to a new generation. Sergey Neller personally performs all of Medtner’s solo piano works, and collaborates as conductor or pianist with singers and instrumentalists to breathe life into Medtner’s vast and rich legacy.

But The Medtner Code is more than just a recording project.
It is a journey of discovery — a bridge between Medtner’s time and ours. Each recording is accompanied by thoughtful introductions and conversations with the performers, offering audiences a deeper connection to Medtner’s music and world.

Since April 2025, the project has already recorded eight opus numbers — more than two and a half hours of music — in professional sessions in Germany and Hungary. These first chapters of the Total Edition mark the beginning of a complete collection of Medtner’s works, to be released in high-quality audio and video formats.

Through this project, we invite you to experience music of rare beauty — to hear a voice that speaks across the centuries with tenderness, strength, and timeless artistry.
